ART
The conceptual art approach of United Catalysts in creating the Skywheel Project is inspired by the
creation and use of sacred objects as focal points for individual and social transformation in cultures across the world. Examples of this practice include Navajo sand paintings, West African ritual masks, and Tibetan prayer wheels. This approach is also influenced by modern society’s use of technology (i.e. machines and communication systems), and its ability to transform the nature of our outer and inner worlds.
The art of the Skywheel Project includes preliminary sketches, diagrams and concept drawings for the Skywheel Satellite, and etchings, drawings and paintings that explore themes of space, communication, interconnection and transcendence. The art of project is currently in an exploratory phase. Future manifestations will include artists' books, a sculptural mock-up of the satellite, multi-media installations and an edition of art prints that will be shown alongside the satellite itself.
Visual and performing artists interested in the themes of the Skywheel Project can join United Catalysts in the creation of work for future group exhibitions and performances. Email Rachel Hillberg at rhillberg@skywheel.org for more information.
